Consumers 'do not have to switch supplier to save money'

Household and commercial electricity users may not have to switch suppliers to save money on their energy bills, according to an expert.

Georgina Walsh of energywatch made the comment to a major national newspaper when discussing ways in which people can lower the cost of their gas and electricity.

Talking to the Daily Telegraph, she explained that other deals offered by their supplier could prove more cost effective than switching to a completely different provider.

"Customers don't have to move suppliers to save money, they can often cut bills simply by moving on to a cheaper tariff with their existing company," she told the newspaper.

Ms Walsh's advice comes after the UK's energy minister revealed his concern over the rising cost of gas and electricity.

In an interview with the Press Association, Malcolm Wicks said that he was "worried about the scale" of the issue and that no one yet knew what level of increases to expect in the near future.
