Regulator publishes consultation

The UK's energy regulator has published a consultation which discusses the availability of supplies for next winter.

Created by the National Grid for Ofgem, the report states that Britain's efforts to acquire gas will depend on the price that suppliers are willing to pay to secure the energy.

It also found that extra supplies may be available through Norwegian gas sources including the Ormen Lange pipeline.

The consultation has been launched to help major commercial electricity users to plan ahead for the end of this year, while a final report on the issue is set to be published in September.

Ofgem recently also published an action plan for tackling fuel poverty in the UK.

The organisation's initiative includes plans for energy suppliers to improve their social programmes to help households struggling with gas and electricity bills.

It also features measures such as a pilot scheme for a number of vulnerable customers to ensure they are on the best available tariff.
