Ofgem appoints consumer panel

Ofgem has begun its search for a panel of domestic energy customers to help it tackle the worries of consumers.

The regulatory body has revealed it is looking for people to join the group, which will consist of household electricity users and be officially formed at the start of October.

Alistair Buchanan, the organisation's chief executive, said that the panel will help it keep in touch with the concerns of the public in light of rising energy costs and climate change issues.

"Our new consumer panel will be a ready sounding board for the regular consumer's take on issues that matter most and on the key challenges such as willingness to pay for security of supply and curbs on environmental damage caused by energy supply," he explained.

The new panel is set to work with the National Consumer Council, which is expected to replace energywatch later this year.

Ofgem recently appointed a new director to its Networks division.

Stuart Cook is to take up the role of transmission director and will join the body from the PA Consulting Group.
