Regulator appoints director

The UK's energy regulator has appointed a new director in the aftermath of its network division restructuring.

Ofgem has revealed that Stuart Cook will take up the post of transmission director in the division.

The recruit is joining the organisation from PA Consulting Group's energy and utilities consulting practice, where he has had much experience of working with companies in the sector.

He also recently led the design of commercial arrangements for the Scottish retail market.

Alistair Buchanan, Ofgem's chief executive, said: "Transmission policy remains pivotal to the successful operation of the GB energy markets and to the achievement of government energy policy.

He added that Mr Cook's experience will "equip him strongly" in his new role for the body.

News on the appointment follows the announcement that Ofgem has agreed a package to improve the support available to energy customers who are struggling to pay bills.

The new action plan was recently agreed at a meeting between the body, energy suppliers and consumer organisations.
