SSE completes business electricity supplier acquisition

Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) has completed the acquisition of an Irish business electricity supplier.

The energy provider, which is one of the biggest in the UK, will gain around 3,500 business electricity customers through its takeover of CHP Supply, which trades as CH Power in Ireland's electricity market.

Alistair Phillips-Davies, the energy supply director of SSE, said the acquisition marks the first phase of company's move into the country.

"It provides SSE with its first 3,500 customers and establishes a sound foundation to pursue our stated objective of becoming a significant player in this market," he explained.

SSE's announcement on the completion of the deal has come after it announced that it is not planning to review its current UK gas and electricity prices.

The business electricity supplier stated that it is to consider its tariff costs at the start of British Summer Time at the earliest after British Gas, EDF Energy and npower all increased their rates.
