Consumers advised to wait on switching energy provider

Household and business electricity suppliers have been advised by the UK's watchdog to be careful when switching their energy provider in the coming months.

energywatch has stated that it may also be best if customers wait to see whether energy suppliers follow the lead of npower and boost their prices before changing to a different deal.

A spokesperson for the body also suggested which comparison services customers should use to switch.

She said: "Consumers are advised to wait until the dust settles over the next few months before seeking out the best deal.

"It's easy for most consumers to switch. Consumers should use one of the switching sites accredited by the energywatch Confidence Code."

energywatch was established as an independent organisation to provide free impartial advice and information to gas and electricity customers in UK.

The body's director of campaigns, Adam Scorer, stated that npower's price increases last week "were the shape of things to come" in the energy market.
