Energy customers 'should shop around for the best deals'

Many energy customers in the UK do not realise the benefits of shopping around for the best deals in the gas and electricity market, according to UKPower.co.uk.

The comparison service's director Graham Self also said that some household and business electricity customers may not realise what is involved when switching suppliers and think it is far more complex than it actually is.

He explained: "There is a bit of naivety about how it actually works. It's not like car insurance, for example, where people automatically shop around."

Mr Self added that as well as changing their energy suppliers, customers could save money by simply using less energy and turning off appliances that usually stay on standby.

The comments from the UKPower.co.uk director have come after Ofgem revealed that around 2.8 million household and business electricity customers have switched their energy supplier in the past six months.
