Ofgem: 2.8m customers switched supplier in last six months

Around 2.8 million electricity customers have switched their energy supplier in the past six months, according to new research.

The UK's energy regulatory body Ofgem's latest report also claims that around 2.3 million household and business gas customers decided to change their service providers in the same period of time.

Discussing the findings, chief executive Alistair Buchanan said the research proved that "the heat is still on" for energy suppliers in the UK to provide better deals and customer service to their clients.

He added: "With winter drawing in and all suppliers having lowered their prices, now is a good time for all customers to check whether they are getting a good deal."

Ofgem's latest study on the service provided by the UK's major energy suppliers has come around a week after the regulator suggested that the government needs to consider creating measures to speed up the connection of new energy generators to the national grid.

The call came after a study revealed that major energy projects were being held up by planning regulations.
